More on Gear (Levels 10 – 15)

Citi Plays DDO

Gear is a topic with which I, even seven years later, continue to struggle. What do I keep, is there something better, how does one learn the actual gear value? When you get to level ten, this becomes an even bigger issue.

Each update changes the game, some even cause the gear landscape to go through an enormous renovation. The recent expansion of Ravenloft, with its introduction of Barovian and Morninglord weapons, is no exception.

To that end, I have decided to make an endeavor to assist new players make sense of all their choices. This won’t be easy and I’m sure I will miss some things, but let’s give it a go, regardless.

Let’s start with RNG (aka Random Loot Drops).

Ideal choices will differ dependent upon things such as class, Adventure Pack Access, and your ability/ willingness to run raids. As one gets higher in level, the massive amount…

Listmas 2017: 5 Games I’m Looking Forward to in 2018

VIRTUAL BASTION

Well, here we are at the end of it all. The the old year has come to a close and the new year is poised to replace it. And with a new year comes new games to look forward to! I gotta say, I’m not really convinced that 2018 is going to be a strong year for gaming. Unlike 2017, 2018 doesn’t look like it’ll be coming out of the gate swinging. There’s some cool stuff to look forward to later in the year, but for now…eh. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. That said, 2018 isn’t completely devoid of games I’m looking forward to playing. I’m just hoping that there will be more to get excited about beyond what’s on this list.

Top Ten Video Games of 2017

Bearded shorts

Gaming had a heck of a year in 2017. Thank goodness, cause basically everything else was trash. Games were so good! I’m going to tell you about a few that I liked. Let’s say…10-ish? Sound good? Cool. Let’s get it.

Actually, before we start, I have to give a special shoutout to one game that didn’t make my top 10. That game is Cuphead. Yes, it finally came out! Cuphead is very much not my kind of game. I have little patience for platformers, and I don’t play games for difficulty. HOWEVER, this game is, hands down, the most stunning game I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen this thing in motion on a 4K HDR TV, you are missing out. It will blow you away. It didn’t make my list, but it is the first game I’ve played in forever that makes you want to call people over to…

Game of The Year 2017

mrluvvaluvva

…well, it’s just like, my opinion – man.

Well, here we are ladies and gentlemen – the cusp of yet another New Year. I personally hate New Year, a lot of preparation to end up in a pub full to the rafters and waiting 25 minutes to get a drink that is severely overpriced. Not for me, but it does allow me the chance to share with you all my personal game of the year choices! As always, I will do a top 3, with some honorable mentions – so shall we see what I have chosen this year? Let’s do this!

**I will keep it spoiler free!**

My favourite posts of 2017

GamingSF

As we close another year I’ll use this last post of the year to review some of my favourite MMORPG blog posts from 2017. For this selection I’ve incorporated a mix of favourite memories alongside some of the more comparative or thoughtful pieces addressing the wider MMO genre.

1) Five suggestions for next SWTOR expansion

Having just watched, and thoroughly enjoyed, the latest Star Wars film; I have had SWTOR on my mind again of late. In reviewing 2017 posts for this year I came across the linked post from January about my thoughts for SWTOR’s future direction and I’d stick by those five points still today.

2) Social Items

This April post highlighted the many social items that exist in World of Warcraft and added a few examples from other MMOs too.

3) Low level dungeon groups

This has been a ‘poster issue’ for me this year, first addressed…

Wolfenstein 2: New Colossus

Wolfenstein

It’s a game about killing Nazis, and reveling in that violence. It’s part righteous fury, part joy in the face of madness, and part dope-ass first-person shooter. To put it simply, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a lot. –  Cheat Code Central

6 games that I’m looking forward to playing in 2018

Bio Break

Well, this is it. The last Bio Break post of 2017 and the final list for this week (apologies if you hate lists, but I wanted to both wrap up the year and prep a bunch of posts in advance so I could enjoy a week of downtime without other concerns). As we turn into 2018, what am I looking forward to playing? Here are the six games that I anticipate taking up my game time:

1. Sea of Thieves

March is going to be something else, especially if I can sign on to a pirate crew. Rare’s Sea of Thieves is scheduled to finally release, bringing this sort-of-MMO to the public after years of gleeful anticipation. With a nonstandard RPG progression system, group pirate antics, and a gorgeous looking world, I can’t wait to jump on board and live out my buccaneer fantasies.

2. Project Gorgon

Geez, I feel…

6 non-MMO games I enjoyed in 2017

Bio Break

Outside of MMORPGs, this was an odd year for my gaming. I had a lot less spare time this year, and while titles continued to pile out, only occasionally was I able to dip into a new game for Try-It Tuesday. Also, some games that I was anticipating — particularly Torment, Galaxy of Pen and Paper, and and Dreamfall Chapters — ended up being less-than-satisfying.

But when I look back on the year, here are the six non-MMOs that I ended up enjoying the most:

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2

For those keeping track at home, KOTOR 2 was pretty much the main retro game experience that I covered (Duke Nukem 3D and a handful of “try once and discard” titles were the only other ones). And even that wasn’t a regular event, as I could only cobble together enough gaming time since April for about…
