D&D Diary – Waterdeep: Dragon Heist – Session 15

Game Night Blog

Our heroes invade yet another sewer lair, almost die, pick up a new player, and fail to advance the plot. Again.

Dragon Heist cover fullWhen last we left our heroes, they had been diligently following the trail of breadcrumbs that will lead to the Stone of Golor, which will eventually lead them to a vast horde of gold, and somehow, maybe, an actual evil plot to thwart. Last session, they finally caught up with the “man” they’ve been hunting. They destroyed it; but of course, it had passed on the Stone leaving only a vague clue to the next location. They solved that too, only to find that the next man they need to hunt down has also gone missing with no way to find him.

Waterdeep SummaryLet me sum up. After accidentally rescuing this guy, they got a free tavern from this guy, which was almost blown up and they were…

Fly Free or Die #9: We’re No Cowboys

Pathfinders' Guild of Berkeley

In four (FOUR!) missing chapters of our story, the party was contacted by the underworld figure “Lord Sinjin” and tasked with stealing the experimental starship, the Oliphaunt, from EJ Corp. Sinjin’s agents betrayed the party at the dropoff point and so our heroes made off with the ship themselves. Now having severed all ties with EJ Corp and now piloting a stolen ship, they do odd jobs found for them by their old friend Tarika. After completing a delivery of blackhearts, they are now on Vesk-2 doing a local job. The party solarian, one of the literate members of the crew, continues their story. –GM

Pentagonal Monuments in the Ghost Dunes

Pentagonal Monuments in the Ghost Dunes
Pentagonal Monuments in the Ghost Dunes (300 dpi promo – no commercial license)

Standing tall over the endless sands of the ghost dunes are these ruins made of five pentagonal structures set into a pentagon themselves. The structures, said to have been risen from the sands by the will of a wind-wizard, are a sacred site to the cult of the Sand Children who climb the ruined tower to the upper level where they can whisper to the winds to carry their message of damnation to across the desert to the ears of those who would listen.

When the rains come to the desert, water pools in the centre between the monoliths and fast-growing vines take over. These vines bear flowers that cause drowsiness to those who breathe their pollen – and the Sand Children then rush to feed them the deadly but delicious melons from the vines, claiming that…

Swordtember Blade #8 – Belladonna

Dyson's Dodecahedron

This month is Swordtember. I’m going to try to draw a sword every day for the month. If I manage to keep this going for the whole month, I’ll release all 30 sword images (minus the frame and Swordtember logo I drew) as an incidental stock art pack.

This rapier’s owners often add adjectives to its name – silent, cursed, deadly, quick… but regardless of how it is named, it is a quick and masterful Sword +1, Wounding that is also cursed – the wielder cannot wield another melee weapon (except perhaps an off-hand weapon of lesser stature than Belladonna) until rid of the blade via a remove curse spell.

After our last fight, we go to sleep in the dining room. But before that Shalelu and Jakardros walk away from the party to talk. Jail listens in on them using Aranea. We learn Shalelu’s father left her when she was young. Her father IS JAKARDROS.

After waking up, we look around some more and find a room with the bones of deformed babies and a room with a bed dented in by what looks like a large man (most likely the one we killed before). We continue looking around and make our way downstairs where we find a mutant groot-looking plant.

Aranea makes a clean crit on the plant learning It is…

This perpetually stained scimitar was the personal blade of the turncoat ranger Torwald who used it to slay his liege when all seemed lost at the siege of Sragish. The blood of the king still stains the blade and the enchantments upon it, rendering it into a sword +1, +3 vs humans.

Boss Rush Banter: How Important Are Achievements/Trophies to You?

When the Xbox 360 launched in 2005, one of the most important new features to the console was the achievement system. At first glance, achievements seemed to be another asset that would likely go forgotten by developers—think the AR card reader for the 3DS or the motion controls of the DualShock 3. Quickly though, achievements became one of the talking points for the early 7th gaming generation. Many gamers preferred to buy multi-platform games on the Xbox 360 simply due to the achievements, thus Microsoft had a leg up on the competition for several years until others began to copy their success.

Achievements reward players with points for accomplishing certain tasks in games. For instance, completing a level in a game could give you points, while finishing the title on the hardest difficulty could reward you with even more points. Players can showcase their accomplishments via their Gamertag profiles…

This cutlass has a golden guard in the shape of a human skull. The Golden Hunter is a Sword +2, Nine Lives Stealer – on a natural 20 the victim of the attack must save vs death or be instantly slain, their life force absorbed by the sword. The blade can absorb the life forces of five more victims before it loses this ability. In addition, the hunter has the ability to detect unattended gold once per day for 30 minutes with a range of 120 feet.

Boss Rush Banter: Which Game Do You Hope Sony Reveals This Week?

It’s speculation time again! Sony just recently announced that they will be hosting a PlayStation Showcase event on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 4:00 pm Eastern / 1:00 pm Pacific. Stated to be approximately 40 minutes long and to showcase games from PlayStation Studios as well as third-party developers “releasing this holiday and beyond,” the event is sure to be jam-packed with games we know are about to release and new announcements as well. We know they will probably show off more of Horizon: Forbidden West and hopefully more of the yet-to-be-officially-titled God of War: Ragnarok, but which other announcements do you hope PlayStation will make during this event?

Are you just wanting to find out more about games that have already been announced? Maybe an offical title and trailer for the next God of War game, or more information about the long-rumored remake of the original The Last…

Heart of Darkling – The Pillars

Dyson's Dodecahedron

Heart of Darkling Series Header

The Darkling River works its way through the underdark beneath the grey hills to depths unknown. This is the fifteenth mapped location (and 18th map total) along the Darkling River and the Darkling Lake beyond.

Fires light this cave – there’s almost always a small bonfire on the upper reaches of the cave, and typically several torches scattered here and there around the shrine and pillars. The Darkling slowly runs past and between a series of eleven cyclopean hexagonal pillars that reach floor to ceiling and encroach on the river itself. The cave is home to a strange mix of underdark denizens, all here at the behest of the ur-priest, one who does not worship the gods, but siphons their power.
